‘The Elysia’ to journey to XpoNorth
Greg McCarron’s film “The Elysia” will be shown at XpoNorth, Scotland’s leading creative industries festival, which takes place on 11th and 12th June. It was chosen from over 3000 entries to be part of the Short Film Showcase – dubbed a “mini festival within a festival” and will be shown alongside films from around the world
The Elysia was inspired by the story of a Sandwick man, Cecil Smith, who was torpedoed during the second world war and was presumed dead. Mixing animation and reconstruction it tells this moving true story of the wait for news by his wife, Grace. The film features Cecil and Grace’s granddaughter and music by composer Aamon Watt.
“The Elysia” was commissioned as part of the Ebb Tide project in 2014 as part of the Cultural Festival surrounding the Commonwealth Games.
